Publisher Sony has stated that it will likely release further HD remakes of past classics for PS3 in the coming years.
The only HD Collections confirmed to date are the already released God of War Collection and the recently announced Sly Cooper Collection, the latter of which will also support PlayStation Move.
“We are looking into ways how we can deliver the PS2 library to PS3 consumers, but were are not ready to announce anything yet,” SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told IGN.
“Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year. There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they'd like to see.
“So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions.”
So what Collections could we expect to see in future? Horror series Forbidden Siren would likely be well received, as would Jak and Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Syphon Filter.
Other possible names to add to the list include Rogue Galaxy, Wild Arms, The Mark of Kri, PaRappa the Rapper, Destruction Derby, The Getaway, Arc the Land, Ape Escape and Dark Cloud. And just imagine if Square Enix were to announce some sort of Final Fantasy revisit (three SKUs: FFI – FFVI, FFVI-FFIX and FFX+FFXI?)!
And, of course, we’re yet to receive official confirmation of the rumoured Team Ico HD Collection that would include PS2 titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
