Film and TV-streaming company Blinkbox is to bring a specially designed version of its service to the PlayStation 3, it has been revealed.
The service will allow UK users to download a selection of films from 99p each and TV dramas such as Gossip Girls and Heroes for around 39p. Films can also be bought to keep from £2.99.
"The PS3 is the first of a number of devices to which we will be bringing Blinkbox, enabling customers to use our service on their TVs for instant streaming of new blockbuster movies - available on the same day as their release on DVD - as well as a growing library of free ad-supported titles," the company's CEO Michael Comish told the Associated Press.
"As a console owner myself, I knew that fellow gamers wanted access to the very largest selection of movies for instant viewing, and did not want to lose valuable hard-drive space or have to wait for their downloads," he added.
Blinkbox has designed a version of its service especially for PS3, and optimised it for use with the PS3 controller.
Film rental service Netflix was launched on PS3 in November and the console also has integrated BBC iPlayer support. Last September the BBC said the PlayStation 3 had become the second most popular platform after PC on which to view iPlayer.
