Call of Duty: Ghosts is apparently "on track" to be the most pre-ordered titled in 2013.
That's according to Bob Puzon, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop, who said the title could top the list of most pre-ordered games this year. "Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon," he said in recent PR. "We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most pre-ordered title of the year."
This comes after Activision Publishing president Epic Hirshberg said in an earnings call last month that pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are "well below" that of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Hirshberg blamed 'hesitation' caused by the looming console transition. While no figures were disclosed, Hirshberg said the company's "quantitative consumer research" indicates that "hesitation amongst past CoD pre-orderers is primarily due to not knowing which platform they'll be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition."
Activision has confirmed a Call of Duty: Ghosts release date of November 5 on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. The game will also be a launch title for Xbox One (November 22) and PS4 (November 15).
US pre-orders via GameStop will get customers a discount on a downloadable version of Eminem's new album, The Marshal Mathers LP 2.
